Indigenous Cultural Centre Launch!
Our grand opening for our new Indigenous Cultural Centre and programs went extremely well. With provincial and municipal government representation in attendance, we can say we are pleased with the support for our Indigenous community, and our part in reconciliation.
Our Elder Bruce Starlight is guiding us with education and cultural practices, and we are now able to offer appropriate truthful education and ceremonial activities lost to our clients, or misplaced, through addiction and history. Breaking the cycle of Intergenerational trauma involves everyone, as we have seen with the large attendance at our program opening ceremony. It shows our community and supporters do care, and have been part of making this possible.
Simon House has a history of resilience and compassion when it comes to addiction treatment and understands the effects of the residential schools history. Our program will continue to incorporate strategies against racism and stereotypes. We are always better than yesterday and will grow more tomorrow as a leader in Addictions Treatment.
Our Indigenous program includes:
Smudging
Sweats
Pipe ceremonies
Medicine picking
Indigenous and residential schools history
Intergenerational trauma
Elder support and counseling
Community engagement and presentations to outside organizations
