Tyler's Story
For a decade, my life was consumed by crime, violence, and drugs before I found my way to Simon House. I lived on the streets where there are no rules, or morals.
Arriving at Simon House felt like a divine gift, fueled by my desperate need for change. I had made countless attempts to turn my life around, driven by sheer willpower, only to be met with incarceration, institutionalization, and near-fatal overdoses. Exhausted and alone, I reached a crucial moment: I had to set aside my ego and start listening to those who had found the life I yearned for. That's when I discovered Simon House.
Simon House provided me with structure and instilled everyday morals that became the foundation of my new life. As time went by, these simple rules became an integral part of my daily existence. The team at Simon House introduced me to the profound teachings of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and guided me through the transformative Twelve Steps of recovery.
During the first phase of my stay, they strongly recommended finding a sponsor who had successfully completed the steps and had a spiritual connection. Without hesitation, I dug in with both feet. The program had various elements such as group therapy, recovery classes that delved deep into the Big Book, engaging group discussions, and individual counseling sessions with a dedicated counselor. Through the program's all-encompassing approach, I was able to forage a connection with myself and a higher power - a journey that led me to truly love myself. The 84-day program truly taught me more than I ever learned before.
I have so much gratitude for Simon House, as I wholeheartedly believe that it saved me.
