Dariusz's Story
I started drinking alcohol in my early teens and cannabis a few years later, and I was known as a "party animal" in high school and university. Beer and cannabis never seemed like an issue because I always succeeded in school and at work until 20 years into my addiction. Having an excellent job and relationship, my employer asked me to take a 3-month leave of absence to sort out my drinking. My career and all of my relationships had fallen apart, but still, I continued to use.
After a particularly concerning incident that resulted in a hospital stay, the doctors encouraged me to immediately enter rehabilitation for my addiction. I was hesitant but realized that my drug usage was out of control and decided to contact Simon House.
This decision was literally life-changing.
The 90-day program at Simon House exceeded all expectations and previous misconceptions towards rehabilitation. The program offered in-class learning from exceptional teachers who fully understood addiction, this helped me grasp the dangers of addiction and how to eliminate my dependence. Equally important was the support network of staff, counsellors, other clients, and Simon House alumni that helped me throughout my entire stay. After completing 30 days of the program, I noticed that my physical addiction was starting to disappear due to the comfortable environment offered and the zero-tolerance policy. The remaining 60 days allowed me to learn about the mental aspect of addiction, the many ways to prevent temptation, and the ability to control my actions.
Before Simon House, I felt like I had hit rock-bottom and was very ashamed of myself for disappointing my family, friends, and everyone I was associated with. The balance of class, outside meetings, and free time allowed me to form some incredible friendships. I have comfort in knowing that support from the staff at Simon House will always be there for me.
I feel like a new man, being sober for the first time in 20+ years, I’ve been able to set goals I didn't think were possible.
I will never forget the dedication of the staff at Simon House. They do everything possible to help clients that walks through the door beat this oppressive disease.
