Metis Nations of Alberta Conference

This month, members of the Simon House team travelled to Edmonton for the Metis Nations of Alberta Conference. At the event, the team was able to represent Simon House Recovery Centre while learning about the various other organizations and individuals that came together as part of this event.

Kasey, Simon House’s Indigenous Liason, shared a few insights into the trip:

We walked around the forum and learned much about the many different partnering agencies, such as Metis Urban Housing, Alberta Caregivers, Indigenous Wellness Core, Alberta Blue Cross, and Metis Nation of Alberta’s Health department. It was at this event that I met Aradhna Chawla, a Mental Wellness Coordinator who had invited Simon House to be part of this incredible conference.

Learning of the diverse and robust connectivity within the Metis community astounded me to the point of joy. I felt empowered to be exposed to a conference discussing the growth, development, and advocacy of the Metis nation.

There were many laughs shared and discussions with presidents and delegates of agencies and tribes that were interested in learning more about Simon House and the work we do with our men in Recovery. The drive to and from Edmonton was shared with even more laughs, stories, and connections.
